Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova, famous for the incandescent beauty of her dancing in The Dying Swan, and the dessert invented in Australia and named after her consisting of meringue like her tulle skirt, whipped cream and strawberries. Toured over 400,000 miles by land and sea, seen by millions. 'If I can't dance then I'd rather be dead. So can you prepare my swan costume?' In ballet tradition the show went on, a single spotlight circling an empty stage where the dancer would have been. Pleurisy
